Soul v 10 n 15 by Alex

Soul-rideomagazine! is the only german bmx video-magazine. It's produced by one (Thomas Stellwag) and a half man. Thomas produces his magazine since ten years. You just have to look at him to see that his experience is great. Both times riding his bike and producing his mag he knows how to go down a bomb. In this issue we can see the master personally. The rideomagazine get an insight into the german and the international bmx-scene. Soul doesn't always want to show the most incredible tricks, but watching the mag you feel the spirit and you want to ride all night long. Different categories brings biker, musicians and lifestyle together. A lot of events are featured, especially the bmx worlchampionchip 2000 Cologne. A real highlight! Another feature is the carhatt-WTP Roadtrip through europe. Fixing a point - Soul is really nice. Moving pictures are even much exciting than a photo. And if you can't get enough - get a Soul subscription!
ABA Spring Nationals Stockton, CA by Double A Marketing

Stop number 11 of the 2001 ABA pro series was held in Northern Californian over the Memorial Day weekend. The ABA once again held a national with record breaking attendance and a stacked pro class. This made for some great BMX racing for the fans and participants to witness. With a huge factory presence and display area, the Spring Nationals was a great BMX weekend.

Warwick Stevenson had another great weekend, with a huge day on Saturday with wins in Both AA pro and Pro Open. Then on Sunday, Warwick came back and won Pro Open and placed 2nd in AA pro. This is one of the hardest things to do in BMX, as the Pro class is full of fast riders, but Warwick proved his strength and speed for all to see.  Christophe Leveque looked to be the fastest guy on the Spring National track early in the weekend, but a bit of bad luck and clipping out of his pedals held him back to a 7th in AA pro and 8th in Open on Saturday. Just to let you know how tough the AA pro class is, Leveque was battling for the overall win in AA until the last main on Saturday, where he clipped out, placed 8th and wound up getting 7th overall. On Sunday Christophe came back and was in top form as he was the winner of AA pro and placed 3rd in Pro Open. Robert MacPherson has been going fast lately but at Stockton, he was really hauling butt. On Saturday, Big Mac blazed in AA Pro, placing 2nd overall. On Sunday, Robert was in both the AA pro main where he placed 6th and Pro Open, where he finished 4th. Robert is getting used to even faster speeds on 2 wheels, as he recently purchased a Harley Fat Boy. Matt Hadan has picked up speed come early mid season and its showing greatly in his results. On Saturday, the Diesel blew away the Pro Cruiser class strait from the Gate and won by an impressive margin. Matt was also in the Pro Open class, but was held back to 5th overall. On Sunday, Matt once again made both Pro Open and Cruiser where he placed a 3rd in Cruiser and 7th in Open. Grant White had been up in Northern California for a week where he did a clinic and rode the Stockton track to get warmed up for the Spring Nationals. On Saturday, a terrible crash was the only reason he wasn't on the gate for the AA main, but when the pro cruiser main rolled off the gate, he was in a solid 2nd at the line.  On Sunday, Grant was once again in the thick of things in Pro Cruiser and placed 2nd overall. Thomas Allier has been riding more than ever, but an injury to his knee is holding him back a bit. On Saturday, Allier had a bad crash in the AA semi, and that was the only way to keep him out of the AA Main. Thomas was in the Pro Open main where he placed 3rd. Thomas will try his luck at the Norba Nationals this upcoming weekend in Big Bear, CA f the Norba opener.

Gerwin Peters wins Garmisch BIKER-X
Former Be One World Cup star still unstoppable. Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Ger) – After a successful Festival in Riva del Garda, Italy, Garmisch was the next stop in the Bike Festival Tour 2001. In Friday’s Biker X race, Be One was represented by Gerwin Peters and Wilfred van de Haterd, two former Be One Team riders. As both guys were in the finals, Be One took home victory with Peters, Van de Haterd got 3rd.  Gerwin Peters is still riding some races for Be One. After his successful career, Peters decided to go in business. “I still enjoy racing a lot. I’m glad Be One has given me the opportunity to do some races and some festivals”, Peters said after his victory. “Especially festivals like Garmisch are getting more and more popular under the mountainbike crowd. People want to enjoy the excitement of mountainbiking themselves and on a festival they have this opportunity.” Wilfred van de Haterd has given up mountainbiking on a professional level but will do several international races and European World Cups this year. “The enthusiasm for the sport is still there. Like today, I really wanted to win, but a 3rd place was the max!”
2001 Chevy Trucks National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) National Championship Mountain Bike Series.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - 15 May, 2001. ‘Mountain Biking for All’ will be a major theme of the 2001 Chevy Trucks National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) National Championship Mountain Bike Series. Many of the world’s top mountain bikers will be rubbing shoulders with amateur racers and recreational riders in famous mountain venues across the nation. The mixture of Elite racing and a festival atmosphere at NORBA events last year won plaudits from national and international participants alike, and plans are in place to make this an even bigger feature of the 2001 series. Five of the USA’s most famous mountain resorts provide perfect settings for this two-wheeled celebration of the Great Outdoors. A host of new feature activities at each of the five rounds provides an enticing selection of competitive, recreational and fun events in addition to an opportunity to see the world’s elite mountain bike athletes competing at venues around the nation. Access to television coverage of the Chevy Trucks NORBA events is another aspect of the series increased for 2001, with programming on the Outdoor Life Network doubled from one to two hours for each round. Outdoor Life Network – which now reaches more than 30 million homes – provides more cycling programming than any other station in the world. Key additions to the series for 2001 are visits from schools and youth groups in the lead-up to race weekend, new amateur events like the “Super D” – a 10-15-minute downhill run, the enthralling new SoBe Mountain Cross events, trail running on Sunday mornings, and pro autograph sessions on Saturday afternoon. Add these activities to the mountain of other fun and exciting things to do, and what you get is about as much action packed into a weekend as the most energetic bikers and their families could wish for. Mr Rick Sutton said: “I expect more Europeans and international riders to participate in the 2001 series. I am looking forward to the increase in television exposure from OLN, and expanded community activities such as fun rides and pro athlete visits to involve local institutions, families and sports enthusiasts in the series.” An important step towards increased local involvement is the introduction of one-day licenses for the Sport as well as the Beginner classes. The one-day Sport licence is $10, and $5 for the one-day Beginner license. Shimano Children’s race categories do not require a NORBA license. According to Rick Sutton, “Cycling is a recreational activity, which everyone in the family can enjoy. Elite level athletes in this sport are more approachable, not only because they make them selves physically more available through organized autograph signings sessions, but also because the opportunites to engage in cycling are readily available to just about anybody, anywhere: all you need is a bicycle. You can engage in exactly the same activity as your hero, in just about exactly the same setting – that’s the beauty of it.” Furthermore, says Sutton, mountain biking is a sport that instills values of core importance to society. “When you get into racing, you find it is a sport that demands you stay in shape. Out on the mountain bike course there is nowhere to hide if you’re not in shape. There are no time outs, no half-time break, it is honest toil from start to finish. And kids don’t have their parents constantly barracking from the sideline. The sporting competition is a an analogy to real life: It teaches you that if your preparation is thorough, your performance will be as good as it can be. The reward for that is the satisfaction of knowing you have explored your outer limits.. This is an achievement that many never get to realize.” Now in its 13th year, the series has grown to include cross-country (XC), short-track cross-country (STXC), downhill (DH) and dual slalom (DS) events. The 2001 series schedule is as follows:

May 31 – June 3 : Snow Summit Mountain Resort, Big Bear Lake, California

June 21 – 24 :  Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia

June 28 – July 1 : Deer Valley, Utah

July 19 – 22 : Mammoth Mountain Resort, Mammoth Lakes, California

Aug. 16 – 19 : Mount Snow, Vermont

"The 2000 series reached new levels," said NORBA's Managing Director Eric Moore. "We built a series that catered to all kinds of races of all abilities. As a result, we witnessed an increase in rider participation, which is always one of our top priorities. We expect the 2001 series to be even better. Our new venue, Snowshoe, allows us to serve our members in the mid-Atlantic, while our historic favorites continue to be a solid foundation for the series." The Chevy Trucks NORBA National Championships Mountain Bike Series is USA Cycling’s premier off-road cycling series. USA Cycling is the national governing body of cycle sport. The series is aired in ten one-hour shows on the Outdoor Life Network, one of the world’s leading broadcasters of cycling and adventure sports.  Galeforce Sports Marketing is the series management and promotions company.

ABA Gator National Dade City, FL by Double A Marketing

ABA National stop number 10 of 26 for the 2001 Pro season was held in Dade City, Florida this past weekend. With great weather, a big pro turn out and a fast track, the riders had a great weekend with the ABA on the East Coast. With nearly 100 moto's, the ABA was pleased with its turnout and the East coast riders were excited to meet the Pros.Wade Bootes had another great weekend of racing with 2 great finishes in AA Pro. On Saturday, Wade rode strong and finished 3rd in AA. When Sundays AA main rolled around, Wade was looking for more and he got it, as he was the winner of AA Pro for win #6 of the 2001 Season. Wade holds the ABA points lead and will now get ready for the 2001 Mountain bike season. Robert MacPherson has been looking strong so far this season, and Dade City was another strong showing for him. On Saturday, Robert looked to be able to take the win in AA, but a slide out in the 2nd main held him back to 2nd overall. On Sunday, Big Mac was once again on the podium, with a 3rd place in AA Pro. Matt Hadan  has always kicked in with great results in mid season, and it will be no different this season, as Matt had one of his best races of the season in Dade City. On Saturday, the Master finished 5th in AA and 2nd in Pro Open. Sunday was even better, as Matt once again placed 2nd in Open, but bettered his score in AA Pro to a 4th. Grant White returned home from the UCI Japan Pan Am Games to be in Dade City and it was a good call. Grant destroyed the Cruiser class both days with 2 huge wins. Grant also placed 6th in AA on Sunday, rounding out a great weekend. Don't forget to take a look at Grant's Bio on BMXpros.com!

NBL Long Horn Nationals Houston, TX by Double A Marketing

Stop #6 of the NBL pro tour was held in a new place for the NBL, Houston, Texas. The pros were treated to a good track with 2 pro sections and a great rider turn out. Some bad weather was the only foe for the weekend, making the riders to have to sit around and wait a bunch, but when the racing started, it was some great competition. Jamie Staff has been keeping the great results rolling at both the ABA and NBL nationals in 2001. This weekend, Jamie brought home the gold in AA pro in the NBL on Sunday and a 2nd place finish in AA Pro on Saturday. Jamie is making a bid for both the ABA and NBL #1 Pro titles, where he currently sits 2nd overall in points in both. Christophe Leveque has been flying on the track lately, and you can chalk up Houston as another example. On Saturday, Leveque was the fastest rider in the AA pro class and took the huge AA Pro win. On Sunday, a bad gate and the only one main format kept him to 8th, but be on the lookout for a whole string of victories this summer from him! Randy Stumpfhauser  has had a great 2001 season and Houston added to his list of great results. On Saturday, Stumpy finished 3rd in AA pro and added some great points. On Sunday, the one man format hurt him, as he placed 7th, but still represented all of his sponsors well in the main event. Thomas Allier was in the AA pro mains both days in Houston and placed 6th on Saturday and 5th on Sunday. Thomas had a busy week with a bunch of Video and Photo shoots, but made the best use of his time in Houston. Warwick Stevenson has been doing great this year and Houston was another example of just that. Warwick placed 4th in AA on Saturday and gained some more valuable points towards his attempt at his first USA pro title.

ABA Super Nationals - DeSoto, TX May 5-6 by Double A Marketing

The ABA rolled into one of its premier arena's this past weekend in DeSoto Texas. The covered arena was specially built for BMX racing, and the roof provided much help and protection at the event, as high winds and rain plagued the DeSoto area. The newly rebuilt track was quite bumpy and had a very long first strait away. When the mains lined up, it was anyone's guess who could win, but as usual, the Double A Marketing riders stood atop the podium at the end of the event.

Christophe Leveque once again showed why he is one of the top BMX pros of today in DeSoto. On Saturday, Leveque dominated the AA mains with the overall AA victory. In Open, he was barely edged out by Allier. Come Sunday, He was on top of his game again, as he placed 2nd in both AA and Open. Better look out, Leveque is flying! Wade Bootes currently has a hold on the ABA pro points chase and making the mains in DeSoto were his main goals. On Saturday, Wade placed 5th overall. On Sunday, Wade went back into his form of earlier in the season and was the winner of AA pro! Add win number 5 for the 2001 season to Wade's ABA points! Warwick Stevenson rolled into DeSoto with a whole bunch of wins under his belt from the past few weekends and was looking to add more. On Saturday, Warwick had to settle for a 7th in AA pro. On Sunday, Warwick picked it up and placed 4th in AA pro and 3rd in Pro Open. This young guy is becoming one of the elite Pros in the world! Thomas Allier has a huge lead in the NBL pro points chase, and now is adding to his ABA chase. In DeSoto, Thomas added a 2nd place in AA on Saturday, along with a 1st in Pro Open on both Saturday and Sunday to his results. Jamie Staff has been one of the most consistent riders in AA this year, and in DeSoto, Staff was once again in the AA mains. On Saturday, Jamie placed 4th in AA. On Sunday, Jamie placed 5th in Pro Open. Jamie currently sits #2 in ABA pro points. Randy Stumpfhauser had another great weekend of Pro racing with a slew of great results. On Saturday, Stumpy finished 2nd in Pro Cruiser and 3rd in Pro Open. On Sunday, Stumpdog was victorious in Pro Cruiser and placed 6th in AA pro. Randy is making a bid for both the ABA and NBL pro Cruiser tittles this year.

Carmichael Wins Final Round of Supercross
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 5) - Ricky Carmichael wins Round 16 of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick to cap off a spectacular championship season.

An eighth-place start complicated matters for Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's Ricky Carmichael, who clinched the title two weeks ago in Dallas, en route to his 13th consecutive, record-tying win (Carmichael is now tied with McGrath for consecutive wins in a season - 13 - and most wins in a season - 14). Team Yamaha's Tim Ferry captured the $1,000 SFX.com Holeshot Award with Honda's Heath Voss and Mazda/Yamaha's Jeremy McGrath in tow. By the end of lap two, Carmichael, 21, moved from eighth to third place, but the charge would continue. Out front McGrath, Encinitas, Calif., lead for the early half of the race, but spun out in the corner after the 'whoops' and Carmichael, who is the reigning U.S. Open champion, went by. McGrath finished second and Ferry finished third. "I had to work hard out there after that horrible start," said Carmichael. "The lappers were pretty bad tonight and caused me to bobble once I moved into the lead." Tonight was also the final round of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross, the Ford Ranger Pro, brought to you by Mountain Dew and Vans, and Carmichael walked away with $25,000 for scoring the most points in the three Vans Triple Crown of Supercross events.

Easton joins Vouilloz Racing Team
La Grave de Peille, France May 6th - Vouilloz Racing Team announces today a new sponsor. Easton will be the Team's official supplier for tubes, stems and handlebars. The VProcess NV01, the Team's 2001 downhill bike has been fully redesigned and will be built with Easton's best tubes. Eight time World Downhill Champion Nicolas Vouilloz is the main bike designer. He spent a lot of time this winter creating the new bike specifications. The Team members are highly confident knowing that they will have very competitive bikes using Easton's finely crafted tubes."Easton is incredibly happy to have Team VRT using Easton tubing and components this year.  Nico has incredible experience with design and product development, not to mention the ability to make it go fast down the hill.  We are looking forward to the chance to work with VRT in developing new custom tubing for their advanced bike designs, as well as improving our bike components through Nico and Stephan's feedback." says Chris Hilton Easton Product Manager. "Easton is well known for the quality and reliability of their tubes. In addition, they offer a wide variety of tubes to choose from. Nicolas was very pleased to find the specific tubes he wanted out of Easton's catalogue. The NV01 is more than just an evolution of the 2000 bike, the major changes for 2001 include the frame redesign and the components. It is really a new bike." concludes Team Manager Stephane Girard.
